In May 2014, I started to apply for HKU. Dr.Heming found me. He wanted to give me an interview. I was pleased to receive his tasks. From May to September 2014, I concentrated myself on his tasks about PARROT. And I did well. So finally he let me become his Ph.D student. Since then, I called him mentor(en shi), because I respected him very much.

Since September 2014, I was willing to give all my time and energy to him, help him to do the project ‘Multi-threaded State Machine Replication’. For concentrating on it, I gave up the internship offer from RedHat.

He wanted me to go to HKU as an Research Assistant in January 2015 and promised that he would give me the salary as an Research Assistant. I was born in a peasant family. The financial situation of my family was not good. Because HKU would give me the Full Scholarship, so I applied for it. I really didn’t want my family to pay a large sum of money for my study. The cost living in HongKong was very high, because he promised that he would gave me salary to support my life in HongKong, so I agreed and flew to HongKong on January 20, 2015.

From January to March 2015, I was working with our Columbia team. I didn’t return countryside for Chinese New Year. On New Year’s day, I was alone in the HKU campus. I found the root cause of the performance issue. Designed and implemented the checkpoint module. But in March 2015, my family couldn’t support my life in HongKong any more because the cost was so high. So I asked Heming when I would get the salary. He said he couldn’t give me the salary now because he said his funding was monitored by the HKU government. So I had to leave HKU, and came back to my university. After coming back, I sent several email to asked when he could gave me the salary and how much the salary was. My family had paid 20,000 RMB for my life in HK. I was very ashamed that I let my family bear so much cost. I thought I had the right to strive for my salary, but his reply was vague and confusing. In HongKong, my heart hurt sometimes. After coming back, I went to the Shandong Provincial Hospital to check my heart. Doctor said it hurt because of work pressure and mood, and suggested to return home to have a rest for at least one month. So I returned home. Heming let me to continue the checkpoint module. But I didn’t bring my laptop, so I couldn’t work for him, even I couldn’t provide several commands. And also I needed rest. But he was angry with me. He said I had no responsibility, and low morality. I didn’t understand why he said I threatened him. He told me that he would reject me if I didn’t pass the English test. Since then, he blocked my email and put me in the blacklist.

I really don’t understand why he treated his own student and even first student in that way. When doing the project ‘MSMR’, he told me that I was the first author. I didn’t care about the first author, but I didn’t understand why I was not in the namelist.

Now I couldn’t submit the qualified English grade before September 1, 2015. And Heming didn’t approve my application about deferment of registration date. It means that I will be rejected.

Now I have nothing. I need to find a new road for myself.
