can(‘t)/could(n‘t)
When we say someone or something has or doesn‘t have the ability to do something,we can use can(‘t) for the present or could(n‘t)for the past.For example:
当我们说某人或某事有或没有能力做某事时,我们可以用can(t)表示现在,could(n‘t)表示过去。例如:
1. Lisa couldn‘t speak thress languages before she was six
2. Lisa can‘t speak four languages now.
In general,we use be able to when we talk about specitic achievements but with verbs of senses we commonly use can or could. For example:
一般来说,当我们谈论特定成就时,我们用be able to,但当我们谈论感官动词时,我们通常用can或could。例如:
1. Carol was able to leave the hospital only six hours after the baby was born.
2. I can‘t decide what to eat for lunch.
# Complete the sentences using could, couldn‘t or was/were able to.
