在《速度与激情》系列电影的主力演员保罗·沃克意外去世后外去世后，除了对剧本进行较大改动外，电影制作方也希望制作一首歌曲以纪念和缅怀保罗。他们召集了超过50名创作人共同商量这首歌的创作，这其中就包括了当时名气并不高的查理·普斯。他在2014年7月17日这天，写了一段基本的歌词，并将歌名取为《See You Again》，创作过程仅用时十分钟。他们上交给了制作方，原本以为就这样石沉大海，结果却收到了各方的好评。之后这首歌在多位创作人的多次改动下，终于有了如今我们听到的最终版本。电影制作方邀请了创作人之一查理·普斯和之前几部电影就有过多次合作的说唱歌手维兹·卡利法两人共同演唱。
在创作这首歌时，查理·普斯说他在家乡自己也有一位朋友突然去世，于是写下了这首闻者落泪的歌曲。而同样因为这个原因，他在演唱时也是带着真情在唱的，这也是公司选择他作为该曲演唱者的原因。而歌曲说唱部分的歌词则是由维兹·卡利法本人写的。在接受采访时，当记者问他为什么这首歌取得如此大成功时，维兹说因为这首歌虽然是为保罗·沃克创作的，但却深深打动了许多人，让他们感同身受，而不会仅停留在缅怀保罗的层面上。
